  Introduction: Programs

Patch Program

To complete the Bone Builders program, Girl Scouts must complete the required activities for their level (required activities are indicated by a *) plus two additional activities. The required activities focus on the program goals.

The program has requirements that may be completed during scout meetings, at home, in the community, or at an optional half-day event. Girl Scouts are given the opportunity to earn an award that they value highly and can wear with pride.

By teaching girls and young women to recognize the benefits of proper nutrition, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, the program lays a foundation for these girls and young women to adjust attitudes and behavior affecting their current and future health and that of their families.

Patch requirements are tailored to five different levels of Girl Scouts: Daisy (kindergarten), Brownie (grades 1-3), Juniors (grades 4-6), Cadettes (grades 7-8), and Seniors (grades 9-12). The older the participant, the more challenging and extensive the projects become.

Mini-Camp

The second component of the Bone Builders program is the optional half-day mini-camp. This can be organized by a Senior Troop for one or more younger troops, or can be organized through an entire council.

This event is age appropriate and provides education in an entertaining manner.

The event consists of five activities including crafts, exercise, a food pyramid activity, a maze (or scavenger hunt) and a "yogurt station" (hosted by the keynote speaker). The mini-camp can be held on a Saturday morning, in an auditorium, gym or park. The mini-camp is described here.
